The Flirting Mazurkas play swinging jazz and latin songs, tantalising gypsy melodies and European cafe favourites from a blend of charming vocals, dancing tunes and infectious rhythms. Jazz . . . French . . . Italian . . . Russian . . . Klezmer . . . Gypsy . . . Latin . . . Tango
The Flirting Mazurkas have been delighting audiences for many years with their joyous, moving and foot-tapping nostalgia and popular music. Jennifer, Phil and Ernie can draw on their vast repertoire of classics and gems to provide fabulous music for concerts, festivals, weddings or for any special event or function. Their charming personalities, instruments and voices create a joyful feeling and can get those feet tapping and vocal chords crooning! Available on stage amplified to roving acoustic. From wedding ceremony to reception. Jennifer Hawley is the gorgeous lead singer and guitarist. Jennifer has a fine reputation as a singer and guitarist. She trained classically and then in jazz. Bands present and past include: Parisienne Swing, Ruby and Giger, Continental Drift. Phil Carroll is the debonair accordionist, flautist and singer (keyboard available). Phil is active in Melbourne's world music and jazz scenes on accordion, keyboards and flute. Bands present and past: Zingaro (latin), Yalla! (middle-eastern), Klezmeritis (E. European Jewish), Bohemian Nights . Ernie Gruner is the passionate violinist, raconteur and percussionist. Ernie has over 40 recording credits and is active in Melbourne's world music and improvised music scenes. Bands present and past include: Jugularity (comedy cabaret), Klezmeritis, Yalla!, Bohemian Nights . The band was setup and mainly performs as a trio, however adds double-bass (David Krycer), and drums (Denis Close) for large events eg National Art Gallery 6 concerts after dark, Premier's Gala Ball at Crown Palladium, big weddings.

FESTIVALS Thank you and congratulations on your great performance at the Champagne Breakfast and on the Cottage Stage at Moonee Valley Festivals’ Queens Park Sunday. The style of music you played really suited the audience and venue, creating a very sunny outdoor café atmosphere!

EVENTS I and a whole host of people would be delighted to act as referres for the band. Everyone I have spoken to thought you were fantastic and perfect for the event. The range of instruments was great and having the voilin and accordian was particularly evocative and really created the mood we wanted . As the organizer I found the bands professionalism and incredibly cooperative spirit an enourmous advantage. Ernie Gruner (violin, mandolin, vocals), Jennifer Hawley (vocals, guitar), David Krycer (vocals, bass), Jo Abbott (accordion, vocals), Denis Close (drums, percussion) • 6.30pm: Puppentheater : European masterworks come to life in a magical performance, including shadow puppets in the tradition of German animator Lotte Reiniger. Creators Vanessa Chapple and Julian Chapple, puppeteers European Masters: Städel Museum, 19th–20th Century Cost Entry to the NGV for art after dark is free. Admission fees apply for European Masters and Introductory Talks (6pm). Students receive $11 exhibition entry after 4pm. Last ticket sales at 7.30pm |
